From 0 to 1000 Users in 3 Weeks: Launching My First Side Project While Working a Day Job

Oliver Parker - Jul 30 - - Dev Community

Hey fellow indie hackers! I wanted to share my recent experience launching my first side project, hoping it might inspire or help some of you who are in the same boat.

The Project: AI Agents Directory

Three weeks ago, I launched a directory for AI Agents and frameworks to build them. It's essentially a curated list of 100+ modern AI agents that users can filter by category, industry, and payment method. Users can upvote existing tools or submit their own AI agents for review at no cost.

The Journey

  1. Idea to Launch: While juggling a full-time job, I managed to build and launch this project in my spare time. It wasn't easy, but it was definitely worth it!

  2. Rapid Growth: In just three weeks, we've gone from 0 to over 1000 active users. The growth has been both exciting and challenging.

  3. Filling a Need: The rapid adoption shows there's a real demand for a comprehensive, user-friendly directory focused on AI Agents.

Who Might Find This Useful?

  1. AI Agent Builders: If you're looking to create your own AI agent, you can find frameworks and tools to help you get started.

  2. Startup Founders and Entrepreneurs: Want to elevate your current startup with AI? Discover amazing AI agents that can help you automate tasks and boost productivity.

Lessons Learned

  1. Start Small, But Start: Don't wait for the perfect idea or the perfect time. Just start building and iterating.

  2. Listen to Your Users: The feedback from early users has been invaluable in shaping the directory and its features.

  3. Community Matters: Engaging with users and the wider AI community has been crucial for growth and improvement.

What's Next?

We're continuously adding new agents and improving the user experience. I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions!
