A Stack Overflow Survey reveals that over 90% of developers feel it is important to be happy at work and 70% of them are currently happy.

7 behaviours that will make you happier as a Software Developer

  1. Work-life balance is essential: Prioritise mental health and take small breaks in between. Work for shorter hours and take proper sleep at the night. This will help you in avoiding burnout.

  2. Productivity makes you feel confident: Work in full focus mode for certain hours to make you feel productive. Communicate your focus timings to your family members so that they don't interrupt your flow state.

  3. Trust and Flexibility is the key: Opt for remote/in-office work whichever feels comfortable for your work and productivity. Do good work to earn the trust and recognition of the employers. Ask for constant feedback from your manager.

  4. Team, management and recognition are keys to happy workplaces: Surround yourself with passionate, diverse, cooperative and supportive people. Join the team and manager that inculcates these behaviours.

  5. Learn from failures: Don't linger on past failures. Instead, make the mistake, find the solution and focus on never repeating it. Living in the past is stressful, unproductive and depressing. You should keep experimenting and trying new things and learn from your experiences.

  6. Stay engaged with the real world: Meaningful involvement in activities outside your day job will keep your life interesting and give you new perspectives. Find a hobby, interact with people around you and avoid sinking in your own world.

  7. Lower your expectations of yourself: Don't overestimate the work and make unrealistic targets. Unachieving them will make you feel down. Keep making small daily progress and focus on consistency instead of the intensity of work.

As a happy developer, you are a superhero in today's world. You can change the world for the better. Make happiness your first priority.
